The event seeks to showcase the opportunities presented by the Western Gateway – one of the 6 growth Locations of Greater Manchester – and one with a unique blend of established economic powerhouses and new rising potential. Stretching from the City Centre to the fringes of the conurbation, the Western Gateway encompasses successful economic centres at Trafford Park and the nearby Trafford Centre – but includes emerging urban centres plus planned new growth at New Carrington. Infrastructure is central to this regeneration – the Gateway has some of the best power opportunities in the City Region and a growing innovative green industrial sector, yet also some of its most congested transport. With some of the areas' most deprived communities also at its doorstep, the challenge is on to secure economic prosperity that reconciles complex competing influences – and benefits all of the residents of the City Region.
