The transformation of Weir Mill, led by Capital&Centric in partnership with Stockport MDC, marks a significant milestone for the town. This redevelopment is restoring the historic listed mill complex while introducing new-build residential spaces, creating a total of 253 apartments—87 within the mill and 166 in the new builds.
With a £7m grant from Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, the project is opening up access to the River Mersey with enhanced frontage and ground-floor commercial spaces, including café-bars, delis, and independent shops.
The development features two public squares and green spaces designed to foster a vibrant, community-focused area. Once complete, it promises a blend of heritage and modern living, offering independent bars, eateries and coffee shops in a pivotal Town Centre West location. This ambitious scheme is a bold statement of intent for Stockport’s regeneration.
Stopford Park is a landmark 442-apartment development by Cityheart on Greek Street and Wellington Road, set to transform Stockport with a vibrant new neighbourhood and landscaped public realm. The scheme features three main residential buildings: Torkington, a 115,000 sq ft conversion creating 122 apartments; Lyme, a striking 16-storey tower replacing the 60,000 sq ft Lyme Centre with 258 units; and Bosden, offering 62 homes for sale as the first building to be delivered.
The grade II-listed Greek Street Building, formerly the Metropolitan Girls’ School, will be repurposed into Cheers & Smith, a co-working space for local businesses, paying homage to its original architects. Supported by a £9m GMCA brownfield development grant, Stopford Park builds on Cityheart’s success with Stockport Interchange. Construction began in late 2023, with phased completions set for 2026, signalling an exciting new chapter for the town.
