Civic Engineers are a Manchester Invest Partnership Associate, and will be joining us at some of our leading place partnership events such as MIPIM 2024 and UKREiiF. Earlier this year, they announced the launch of a new consultancy called Civic Earth.
Civic+, parent company of structural, civil and transport engineering consultancy Civic Engineers, has developed a ground engineering consultancy called Civic Earth headed by Dan Matthews, former Managing Director of Card Geotechnics.
The launch has seen Civic+ create a new company focusing on ground engineering, reflecting the company’s broader ambitions to provide more cost-efficient, interdisciplinary services to its clients.
Civic Earth will provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental consultancy and site investigation services as part of a holistic approach working alongside Civic Engineers, or through securing its own projects.
The creation of the consultancy not only responds to a growing desire across the industry for structural and civil engineers to offer ground engineering capabilities for development projects, but also opens further opportunities for sister company Civic Engineers to offer more holistic engineering packages.
The ambition is to instil Civic’s passion for environmental and social value, alongside technical excellence into the ground engineering space. Civic Earth will provide analysis and solutions that look beyond soil strength and remediation, to also consider soil health and carbon impacts in the sustainable treatment of contaminated ground.
In his newly appointed role as Civic Earth’s director Dan Matthews brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in ground engineering. He is well placed to develop the new business, having previously held Director and Managing Director positions at one of the largest independent geotechnical consultancies in the UK.
The company has already secured a number of projects across Manchester, Blackpool and south-east England, including Blackpool Multiversity which it is working on in collaboration with its sister-company.
Dan Matthews, Director of Civic Earth, said: “Having worked alongside Civic Engineers on a number of major complex redevelopment schemes over the last four years, I'm delighted to be joining the Civic+ family. It’s exciting to be developing a forward looking ground engineering consultancy business that's firmly aligned with Civic Engineers’ values and rooted within their approach to sustainable design.”
Launching Civic Earth has been a fundamental part of Civic+ board’s growth ambitions as it looks to the future. Julian Broster, Civic+ COO, said: “We recognise that clients are increasingly looking for more holistic, interdisciplinary services. We see this new ground engineering consultancy as fundamental to offering clients more sustainable designs. This will help to unlock the development potential of more heavily constrained sites with creative solutions. We’re excited to have someone with such rich experience and passion for engineering joining us as the figurehead of our new enterprise – we’re hoping everybody across the group can learn from his expertise.”
Civic Engineers are a Manchester Invest Partnership Associate, and it's great to see their Manchester practice is expanding into new services and creating a more cohesive offer. Civic Earth has been growing rapidly since its launch and the team is currently working on exciting projects like Mayfield Park in Manchester, the city's first new park in over 100 years.
The announcement comes off the back of sister company Civic Engineers celebrating its tenth anniversary in operation, winning Best Place to Work Category – SME Consulting firm at NCE Awards this month as well as the ‘Environment & Sustainability’ category at the Manchester Evening News Business Awards in May this year.
