Manchester Invest Partner, Stockport City Council have appointed the contractor to bring forward the first phase of its transformational mixed-use development in the heart of the town, Stockport 8. The inital phase will create 435 homes and commercial space.
Vinci Construction has been chosen as the contractor to bring forward the first phase of Stockport 8, a £350m new neighbourhood in the heart of Stockport, Stockport 8.
Working in collaboration with ECF, the joint venture of Homes England, Legal & General and Manchester Invest Partner Muse, Vinci Construction will support the development of the £100m first phase, delivering 435 homes and commercial space.
In total Stockport 8 will deliver 1,300 homes, with spaces for shops, leisure and offices at street level. The mixed use development which is key to the town's regeneration plans.
The 8-acre site is adjacent to the town’s historic viaduct and new Stockport Interchange, located on land either side of King Street West.
This 435-home initial phase will be constructed on the site of the existing bus depot, east of the town’s famous viaduct, which will need to be demolished. Work is expected to begin at the beginning of 2026.
The 10-year scheme, known as Stockport 8, is split into three phases:

We submitted a planning application in December and look forward to a positive decision this spring before moving forward with demolition of the site in early 2026.”
The full team behind Stockport 8 is made up of architect Shedkm, landscape architect Planit, Deloitte on planning, project manager Walker Sime, Tace on MEP, and Renaissance for structural and civil engineering.
Arup is advising on highways and transport, Arcadis is cost consultant, and Font Comms has led on the community engagement.
