Everything you need to know about Manchester at MIPIM 2017

Written by Manchester at MIPIM

Manchester is one of MIPIM’s most committed exhibitors, and this year the city is bringing its strongest representation yet. This March will see the biggest delegation and most packed programme of events in Manchester’s 18 year history at the international property event.

Curious about the driving forces behind Greater Manchester’s ongoing property boom? Want to get the latest updates on Manchester’s most high-profile upcoming developments and investment opportunities? Interested in the conversations around Brexit, the Northern Powerhouse, and UK regional devolution? Here’s everything you need to know about Manchester at MIPIM 2017.

What’s new for 2017?

This year Manchester is occupying an entirely new venue – The Manchester Pavilion - providing more space, longer availability and better facilities than we’ve ever had before at MIPIM.

The location represents a new step in the city’s growing international profile, placing Manchester alongside the global cities of London, Paris and Istanbul.

Divided into three sections, it will contain:

  • Event space which will host the majority of Manchester’s events over the three day period.
  • Partner exhibition space which will for the first time provide a permanent showcase for Manchester and the Partnership.
  • The Manchester Café where members of the Partnership can host meetings throughout the day.

All this means that for the first time Manchester is able to provide a comprehensive programme of events under one roof, from 8am to 11pm.

Fans of the much-loved Manchester Bar will be glad to hear that it’s open as usual this year. The bar will be open exclusively to the Manchester at MIPIM Partnership and their guests from 08:00-19:00, Tuesday-Thursday, after which time it opens to the public.

Where is the Manchester Pavilion?

The Manchester Pavilion will be clearly signposted and can be accessed from the Croisette walkway.

Who’s in the Manchester at MIPIM Partnership?

Manchester at MIPIM 2017 is represented by 112 companies and over 250 delegates - expected to be one of the largest city delegations in attendance at MIPIM.

What are Manchester’s main events?

The programme kicks off on the Monday (13 March) evening at 6pm at the Launch of the Manchester Pavilion, where MIPIM delegates will be introduced to the new space and talked through the week’s events.

Manchester’s most prestigious and revealing MIPIM event yet - The MIPIM City Investment Forum - takes place on the Tuesday (14 March) at 2pm. Held in the Grand Auditorium in the Palais des Festivals, a keynote address will feature Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council; Marty Edelman, Executive Chairman of Manchester Life Development Company; and Sir Edward Lister, Chairman of the Homes & Communities Agency.

The panel will explore the strategic planning and visionary partnerships that have put Manchester at the vanguard of urban regeneration and development. Representatives from the partnership behind the transformative Manchester Life Development Company - the Abu Dhabi United Group and Manchester City Council - will provide unique insights into both urban regeneration and strategic value creation opportunities. This event is not to be missed.

Throughout the week a series of Breakfast Sessions (08:00 each day) at the Manchester Pavilion will develop an exciting dialogue with key UK and European thought leaders. Focussing on the themes of Brexit, Housing, and Science respectively, the events will welcome senior speakers from Greater London Authority, Stockholm Business Region, City of Amsterdam, City of Antwerp and Barcelona City Council.

In the first of the Morning Stand Sessions (10:30 each day), Eamonn Boylan, recently appointed Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Combined Authority, will be joined by Steve Rumbelow of Rochdale Council, Theresa Grant of Trafford Council and Jim Taylor of Salford City Council in a presentation on the Greater Manchester Industrial Strategy.

The Wednesday morning Stand Session will provide an update on Manchester Place from Paul Beardmore (Manchester Place), Gavin Taylor (Far East Consortium International Ltd), and Jon Matthews (5plus Architects). On Thursday, John Hughes of Ask Real Estate Limited will present alongside Ian Simpson of SimpsonHaugh on an upcoming scheme at Manchester Central.

Afternoon Stand Sessions (15:45 each day) will provide updates on three of Manchester’s most highly anticipated developments. On Tuesday Bruntwood’s Chris Oglesby will be joined by Select Property Group’s Ken Knott and Helen White to discuss the latest on Circle Square, while Wednesday will see football legend and property developer Gary Neville returning to MIPIM to talk through progress on St. Michael’s. On Thursday a virtual tour will reveal the latest plans for St. John’s, including an overview of The Factory Manchester.

Wrapping up this busy week of events, Manchester will celebrate Sir Howard Bernstein’s extraordinary career ahead of his retirement later this year. Property developer and football legend Gary Neville will host a lively and entertaining evening with Sir Howard on the inspiration, commitment and passion that’s helped shaped his career and the city.
