Trafford Council has confirmed plans for 53 new homes on the Lacy Street car park and former Royal Mail sorting office and probation centre opposite Stretford Mall.
The residential development on the 2.3-acre site will deliver 25 per cent affordable housing, sustainable and adaptable homes that have been designed to be thermally efficient giving residents access to EV charging facilities.
The proposal put forward by the Council, and designed by Pozzoni architects, introduces two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments, with the tallest structures reaching a maximum height of 3.5 storeys.
The Lacy Street site forms part of the overall regeneration of Stretford outlined in the 2021 and 2024 Masterplan. Stretford Mall, across from the Lacy Street site, is currently being redeveloped by the Council in partnership with Bruntwood.
If the Lacy Street scheme is approved by the Executive on December 18, it will then go to planning for final approval.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“The Lacy Street site is an extremely important factor in the overall transformation of Stretford town centre. We are applying for permission to build 53 new homes – 14 affordable. The designs reflect feedback that we have had from residents about the need to develop houses, as well as flats, and to open up access to the canal.”
